Information for Teachers

Library Time

- Students visit the media center during their scheduled block classes.

- There are no open access times, as block classes are in the media center all day long.

Borrowed Materials

- Materials borrowed by faculty and staff are not due until the end of the school year.

- All resources are available on a first come, first served basis.

- Please return any resources that you are no longer using.

Media Retrieval System

- Your Telecenter ID# and password are sent to the DE Instructional folder on First Class at the beginning of the school year. Instructions for using the media retrieval system can be found in your teacher handbook. Contact Mr. Cross if you lose or forget your login.

- All G-rated videos owned by Deerwood, the Environmental Center, and teacher-owned videos can be played on our Telecenter closed-circuit tv system. Please reserve your videos the day before, since we load them around 7:55 A.M. daily. Telecenter can not be accessed from home.

- To reserve a vcr or dvd player on Telecenter for use with a G-rated movie that you own (please see the district copyright rules for guidelines):

1. Login to Telecenter.

2. Click the Search tab on the left side of the screen.

3. Enter OWN and click Search.

4. Choose either OWN_DVD for a dvd or OWN_VCR for a VHS tape.

5. Click the Schedule button.

6. Click the date for when the movie is to be shown and enter a starting time of 8 A.M. and an ending time of 3 P.M. and save. You will have control of the player all day.

7. Give the video to me on the day before it is to air, so I can load it that morning.

8. Refer to your teacher handbook for instructions on how to control the player on your air date.

- Any videos above a G rating need to be reviewed and approved by the Video Review Committee. Teachers can complete and return to Mr. Cross the Teacher Evaluation and Request to Use Video form for such videos. R-rated movies may not be shown in Osceola County. Parental Permission Slips must be sent home for any approved, non-G rated videos. Approved PG or PG-13 videos must be shown on a standalone player.

Classroom Equipment

- Every regular classroom should be equipped with a tv, a globe, an LCD projector, an Elmo, and an equipment cart. Please let me know if any of these items are missing from your room.

 Media and Instructional Technology

- The district's Media and Instructional Technology department (on Bill Beck Blvd.) has useful information concerning copyright issues, electronic resources, Pinnacle, podcasts, etc. Visit their web site for more information - http://www.osceola.k12.fl.us/depts/IMC/Index.asp
